Genesis CW44-9 and Wide Vision Caboose?
Author: funnelfan

Athearn put this teaser on Facebook but probably gave away too much. I'm pretty sure the upper left image is of a CW44-9 and the upper right is a Genesis level Wide-Vision caboose. Looks like I might need to unload my Atlas Cabeese!

Someone also pointed out that the bottom image is the roof of a Siemens SC-44 Charger....that's going to make the modern passenger modelers very happy!

I see grab irons up the side of the caboose image which could be Rio Grandes last order of ten cabooses from 1975. If so, they got my money.

Santa Fe's did, also.

I don't know ATSF. I wonder if they were the same a Rio Grande. If so, maybe two winners.

The details in the image fit the ATSF version  of the wide vision caboose well, but I'm sure they will cover all the major customers with various versions.

Grab irons up the side was standard from International Car after Roof Walks were outlawed.

Interesting that they would do a Genesis C44-9W as they just announced those in the Roundhouse line a month or two ago. Was thinking about getting a Kato version, might have to wait.

Makes sense -- gotta clean those cupola windows somehow.

That bottom image looks nothing like a SC44 cab roof

Can't help but notice the "C44-9W" appears to have a rooftop air-conditioner...

Antenna dome.

It appears to be a portion of the roof behind the cab and in front of the horns.  Take a look at this photo of top of Washington State DOT (WDTX) #1401 (a SC-44 Charger)...
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=4661338
... and you might notice that the area just to the left and in front of the horn (when looked at from about the right front white strobe light) looks almost identical to that bottom Athearn image.

The top right image is definitely an International Car Company Wide Vision style caboose and with the grabs and drip channel appears to specifically be Santa Fe (perhaps '78 order).

There are some good SC44 roof photos on railpictures.net. Look again at the "panel" of the roof behind the cab and direclty in front of the horns. The Athearn image looks identical to the SC44.

Clearly neither of these are the C-415 nor the SP C-9 2-8-0 I continue to hope for...

Did any non-gull-wing Dash-9s have one of those? Must be an AC4400 then...

I wonder if the Amtrak long distance SC-44 version will be available as a model before the engines are delivered. Rember Athearn doing the DD40?

And now Athearn has to do Cali and Surfliner cars. Yet another engine with nothing to go behind it!

It's definately NOT a AC44000. The AC4400's have a space between the cab and the dynamic brake vents. The CW44-9's do not.

It could be a spartan cab NS Dash 9-40C. The antenna on the long hood and the A/C box seem to be a match.

There was another teaser photo showing the front of a GE safety cab. Considering NS's cooperation with their SD60E project, might it be standard cab Dash 9's, and a corresponding AC44C6M rebuild?
