Model Railroading > Piddly PC passenger trains in N ScaleDate: 01/14/19 21:12 Piddly PC passenger trains in N Scale Author: inCHI I am exploring my Dad's N scale, which I last really got to run when I was teenager fifteen years ago. I remember his consists and trains in a vague way, but I didn't know the prototypes as well. His layout was PC in N Scale, set in the earlier PC period I believe. A portion of his equipment was from the 80's and early 90's and had been substantially decaled, kimtbashed, and weathered to match prototypes he knew. I'm been intrigued by looking at videos I can find of PC passenger trains and then trying to recreate the consist with his models. With short trains, I often can, and PC certainly seemed to have many. One missing item are some unfinished Hell Gate Models B60 baggage car kits that I might have to complete just because they are so present in those consists.
The video below shows two 4 car trains that are almost exactly like ones I found uploaded in a video online two days ago showing early PC trains around Columbus, OH. Pardon the odd setup. I have an tiny ho layout and at the moment all I can do to run n scale is slot some Atlas code 55 into my Atlas code 83 mainline until I figure something else out. These engines aren't running well either, which is a dilemma. I'm fascinated by his E unit collection, which is almost entirely old CorCor/Atlas and a few older Kato engines, but no two are painted/weathered the same and he really nailed the motley assortment of E's that PC used. I included a photo of PC-renumbered (if I'm right) PRR E8. Looking quickly online, that ultra-basic PRR scheme that he custom painted and decaled hasn't been made factory before. The first train in the video has a powered Kato E, a dummy PC E, two commercially made express boxes, a kitbashed NYC baggage car, and a kitbashed PRR P70. The second train has the PRR E, a PC coach he painted and decaled, a Kato factory coach, the same NYC baggage car, and a flexivan he scratchbuilt. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Recently, I've been getting into replicating passenger consists as well, only I'm an S.P. guy. Sorry no pix tho -- I'm only working on a test "layout" as well. The various mail trains are fun to try to replicate. A bit of a challenge in N scale -- just not as much to chose from (relative to HO) Nice paint jobs too. Thanks for sharing. One final dig: personally I'd drop the HO, and stick to N scale! ;-) --Barry |
