Interurban Maintenance
Author: birdman

The big two car steel interurban train on the Delaware Valley Traction Company has been out of service for quite some time.  Yesterday, the shop crew worked on getting the train back on line.  A loose wire lead to one of the truck mounted motor brushes on the combine had to be soldered and the delrin chain driving the gears on the axles of both cars required some adjustment.  In no time at all, the big cars were back in service.

In the final photo, the morning outbound local freight rounds the big curve approaching Lahaska.

Nice series of photos.  As always, a visit to your layout is enjoyable.
Lack of a bumper or wheel stops at the Buckingham siding in photo #1 is 'risky'

Is your equipment big enough to start sounding like the prototype?
Wheel clicks, gear howl, flange squeal?

1/2 inch to the foot scale.  2.5 inch gauge.  No flange squeal, but quite a bit of noise through the turnouts.  There is some gear noise but not as much as you might expect.  The cars are quite heavy though - about 4 pounds each so they’re not that quiet.  I have a real gong from a PTC double-end 5200 series car that sounds quite loud in the confines of the basement that adds to the noise when I tread on it.  The grandkids love it and never tire of ringing it. It drives my wife crazy after a half hour or so. LOL.

If the grandkids love it then you've accomplished something wonderful.
