Shame on you .  You did not disclose that he is a relative (hint-grand child) and that grandpapa set up the whole thing and even spoke for one whose volcabulary rarely exceeds  "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah,  Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah..

He understand plenty.  He knows you grown-ups are having fun and want him to have fun.
At some level this is all making positive memories for him.
One of the best posts I have seen on TO.

I think my sisters son was like this at a young age regarding trains, maybe sands the runny nose.  He is now all grown up and recently started a full time job as a school teacher; AFAIK, the interest in trains didn't stick.  But he is still young.

My kids never got "bitten" by the model railroad bug, BUT my 11+ yo granddaughter has swollowed the bait, hook line and sinker!  Time will tell!

Like Jimmie, little Art started with Lionel 1661 for Christmas 25 Dec 1937. 80 years later, Art is still playing with his 1661 and a whole bunch more Lionel (and HO and OO and On30)! wag216

Yeah, what is it with the skip-generations thing? Model railroading never took with my son, even though I gave him frequent rides on locomotives, yet my grandson and one granddaughter are hooked.

You just never can tell.  It seems to be mostly in the genes (nature not nurture?).  It is especially rare in females but hopefully Davids grand daughter will become a train hobbyist as an adult too.

Cheers, Jim
