Thanks for the video. Definitely different. The roller coaster is cool, too!

I am blown away by the smoke from the locomotives. Wonderful layout

Amazing! Having the roller coaster running in the background made this even better.

That black bonnet would never sell in HO.  O gaugers must be a more forgiving lot!

Lionel has never been known for their historical accuracy. These will certainly sell out account the Lionel name. Collectors look as this as a must have. They don't look too bad and they are impressive on the layout.

Black bonnet, what is that? A cross between the Santa Fe passenger war bonnet and the SP black widow?

In the 1947 Lionel catalog, they introduced the 2333 Santa Fe and NYC F3 diesels.  These catalogs—as were most all pre-1960’s Lionel catalogs—were hand illustrated, with very few actual photographs.  The illustration of the Santa Fe F3 was done in such a way where the artist was trying to show it in shadow, causing the silver paint to appear black.  Decades later, collectors constantly debated the existence of a Santa Fe F3 in a red, yellow and BLACK paint scheme, which of course, never existed, as they were all red, yellow and SILVER.  With current Lionel management striving to come up with YET another variation for collectors & operators to buy, they came up with the “Black Bonnet” scheme.  It’s very nicely done, but just a “what if” Lionel design.

Hope you are all well,

Allen Drucker
