Model Railroading > Krauss Maffei sound decoder

I have tried to look on ESU's website but can not find out if they make a sound file for the Krauss Maffei used by SP. Does anyone know?

Does the restored loco in California indeed have an engine that sounds can be recorded from? Are there any other actual sound recordings from these engines?

yes the 9010 in california has one of its original md870's. And it is operational now.  So a recording can be made.  No there are no recordings of this power plant despite it being in quite a few european locomotives.  I wish somebody would do an uploadable sound recording

The 9010 does move under its own power too.  I do believe they are trying to procure a second 870 to fully restore it

ESU has the Maybach prime mover available in the European sound files with the V4 or V5 decoder one can move the sound files needed with a LokProgrammer.

SP9010 does have one operational engine but it has been removed for rebuilding because of leaking cylinder liner seals and stuck rings.  We are not looking for another engine because there is no front transmission and none of its type exist.  The front transmission was removed and discarded when the locomotive was converted into the camera car in 1968.  The front engine is in place but it is just a paperweight.  It was partially disassembled in 1968 and never put back together thus leaving the top deck open to rain water.

They do not.  The most common sound files are those from the MD655 12 cylinder engine.  Because of European loading gauge, each cylinder bank exhausts through its own pipe.  On the ML4000 C'C', all 16 cylinders exhaust through a common pipe.  The sound is quite different.
