White toner cartridge news
Author: fbe

I heard there is a German company making a replacement toner cartridge for laser printers so a black printer becomes a white printer. It may be as expensive as a complete printer.

This is news from the NMRA convention. Does anyone else have more info?

Presumably for use on decal paper.  So modelers can create and print decals at home in white, which with the demise of ALPS brand printers, has been almost impossible to do.

OK, good to see a practical application for MR use.

Have been around a while, mainly for dye sublimation printing transfer to fabric. They are a german company-limited printers available. Also, uscutter.com carries a small selection of the cartidges.

It belongs to a frined of mine. We use it to print decals for the cars we print and cut using a hybrid  of 3d printing and styrene cut with a cricuit craft cutter. It has a nice image on decal film with nice density.
I'll post a pic in the morning when I can get one to my mac.

I think we already have that problem... <G> I think it rates at the top with expensive disposable razors and vacuum cleaner repair.

These are some of the decals printed with an HP laser printer (not sure of the model) and the ghost white toner.

How many decal sheets can you get from one toner? At ~$680/toner those would be expensive decals.

The $680 price you're seeing is for a bundle that is a printer with the white toner.

From the Ghost website, "The white toner suitable for HP Color LaserJet Pro M452/DN/DW/NW, MFP M377DW/477FDN/FDW/FNW. With one cartridge, you can print 2300 pages with opaque and razor-sharp white prints is $284.27". That breaks out to about 12-13 cents per page. You can get a lot of decals on one page too so this isn't too bad.

You can get the HP Color LaserJet Pro M452nw from Staples for $250 in the USA. If you just buy the printer locally and then buy only the white toner from Ghost, you're better off.

Neat idea for sure and one that is very interesting. Having white is great, now we need other hard-to-print colors such as metalics. Silver, Gold, Bronze, Brass, etc. These were also only available with an Alps printer.
