Model Railroading > Need Help With MTH Big BoyDate: 07/18/19 13:25 Need Help With MTH Big Boy Author: philhoov With the real #4014 out running around, I gotmotivated to get my MTH #4014 Big Boy out and ran it a little today.
I'm running it with NCE ProCab and initiated the engine with F3. I can't get thte smoke to work, possibly due to non-use for the past five years. I added 15 drops of smoke liquid to the front smokestack, per the manual. Also noticed there is no smoke switch on the bottom of the tender, which the manual says to turn on. How can I increase the whistle volume? Any tips? TIA Phil Date: 07/18/19 16:07 Re: Need Help With MTH Big Boy Author: Gulliver-Stuart Hi Phil,
I have a 4014 MTH Big Boy, stock number 80-3189-1. According to the instructions that came with mine the smoke switch on top of the tender, under the first tender water hatch. Sound volume is controlled by Function 7 (F7). By toggling F7 you have nine volume steps. Each time you cycle F7 you increase the volume. If you toggle past the maximum volume you get no sound, then each toggle will increase it again until you reach maximum. Good luck. The manual isn't very clear on that stuff. I haven't run that engine in the past five or more years. After running it a little today, I'm appreciating it more. I will try to find the switch on the tender, but I think I remember that it smoked before. I'm wondering if the smoke fluid tank has dried residue in it and how to clean it out. I may need to add more smoke fluid. I added 15 drops and didn't want too overfill it. That switch on the top of the tender isn't exactly intuitive. Hard to move and no idea what green vs. yellow means. Plus, that switch doesn't move easily or fully into position. Phil. |
