Model Railroading > Athearn BN F45 #6618

I was cleaning out my bedroom closet this afternoon and found this locomotive I forgotten I had had. Bought it about 25 years ago at a local train show. It's a Athearn BlueBox F45 #6618 with the Whiteface scheme. Dusted it off, cleaned the motor good with some CRC QD electronic cleaner, and let her rip, pulling a short train of boxcars. It had somehow lost the couplers over time, but having some spare parts on hand took care of that problem. 

Did any real BN F45's get this scheme, or were they all off the roster by the time this scheme debuted, on the SD60M's? If so, quite a excellent custom kitbash job, whoever did it almost 30 years ago.

More like 1986.

I figured by the mid-80s they were gone, along with the regular SD45's.

*edit the real #6618 was retired 8/85.
I have to say, this was quite an imaginative kitbash of a "what if". 

But one error, the prototype had high mounted headlights, not in the nose.

#6618 and other ex-BN F45s were on the Chicago South Shore & South Bend in early '86.  They were too heavy for the RoW, so they didn't last long.  Gerry

To answer the question directly, the BN F45's did not get the "white face" scheme.  They were all retired before BN adopted that scheme.  6618 was one of the
GN ordered units I beleive came after the merger.  (I can be corrected on that, don't have my research handy.)  Units the BN ordered did have the headlight in the nose.

The last BN units dilivered, 6626 thru 6645 did have nose head lights.  Earlier units have head light above wind shield.
