Rapido Western Pacific RDC models
Author: Ozolian

Has anyone heard anything about the status for delivery? Last I heard was August. Trying to wait patiently.

Have you contacted Rapido? They do answer e-mail and calls.

They show those models "in transit" on their web page. The page was updated August 1st.

I rode that "Zephyrette" from Stockton to Portola to visit a friend in its early days. Returned on the CZ!

Thanks for the info. If no one posts any current dates, I’ll give them a jingle. My Father worked for the WP and I remember going with him to see the RDC’s just after they were taken out of service. I think they were sold to the NP.

I'm so happy you rode the "Zephyrette" back in the day, but what does that have to do with the original post?  Relativity lacking.

I also appreciate the gentleman posting about riding the Zephyrette. An obscure operation that has always fascinated me. How many folks are actually around who either saw them in service, let alone had the chance to ride one.

Well I rode the RDC from Salt Lake to Sacramento June 1951.  Car was standing room out of SLC.
Section crew workers, returning after shopping in Salt Lake.

Yes, they were sold for $50,000 to the Northern Pacific which numbered them B-31 & B-32 and assigned them to the Fargo - Winnipeg route.

Subsequently, they were sold to Amtrak to become 31 & 32.  Initially, there were run out of New Haven, CT and then in 1974, assigned to the Black Hawk route.  Number 31 was wrecked in a grade-crossing accident and the other was returned to New Haven in 1976 and retired three years later.

The source for that information is Northern Pacific Diesel Era, 1945 - 1970 by Lorenz Schrenk & Robert Frey.

Rapido put out a notice a while back, that i no longer have (but have one on order), the factory screwed up the wings (the logo)on the ends of the models. THey all had to go back to china to be re-worked. Y'all know where I stand, please don't poke the bear! :-)
