A new Athearn Roundhouse meets a weathered Kato on my SWP.
The Kato was a brilliant red and I wanted to tone it down a bit but my airbrush of a white/gray wash kind of got away from me.
So I guess we'll call this a contemporary image.
It is not really good focus, but for an i Phone grab shot it does show the contrast in weathering.

I think #600 looks just fine and just the way things are today, sadly.

Heck, it looks better than the 600s did 10 years ago, if not longer.

Also looks better than the real 600 does now; it's not even a Dash-9 anymore...

Nice! You should mention to your track maintenance crew that they need to apply some ballast! 😉

I wrote that location of inadequate ballast down some months ago, but somehow......
Oh yeah, I decided to weather a locomotive instead.

Yeah, pretty much everything but the post-merger 700/4700s are looking pretty rough these days.  Here's a shot that I took of one of the 900s in Topeka last month.

As I mentioned though, the 700/4700's look pretty great still, as is the case with this one I caught leading an O-train recently.

The faded red looks real good.  If you were to apply even a little rust and grime streaks like the fuel tank, trucks, and sill on Jeff's 934 photo, you'd really have something special there.
