MRC - Prodigy Advance Squared?
Author: fltenwheeler

I am getting back into the hobby after many years. I am trying to decide on a DCC system. After looking I am thinking of going with a MRC - Prodigy Advance Squared 1414.

I am looking for input.

Other manufacturers?

Thanks

Tim

I have the original Prodigy which I sent in to be upgraded. I now run wireless throttles and it been basically flawless.

I am thinking about going WIFI instead of dedicated wireless.

Are you meaning a NCE 5240001 PH-Pro Power Pro DCC Starter System?

I have had my Prodigy Advanced Squared system operating my On30 layout fore several years now. I later bought a second throttle, #1415 Prodigy Advance 2- Elite which has the illuminated display (the #1414 throttle's display in not illuminated). The original #1414 throttle that came with my system started to behave erratically and I purchased anothe #1415 throttle to replace it it. I run 'wired' cabs and have two fascia mounted jack panels that the throttles plug into. I typically have 7 sound equipped steam locomotives on the layout at a time and have had no issues with the power supply or the rest of the system. Programming is straight forward. So far I am happy with it.

As a side note I have a Digitrax Chief system for my HO layout with numerous throttles and I have had very little problems with that system. Programming however, is not so easy, using the throttles and so I use an old spare computer to program decoders which makes it so much easier.

The MRC system is a good system. You should buy it. You should ignore the NCE groupies.  Bruce

Thanks Bruce

I have not heard anything negative about the MRC products.

I would use what your friends or clubs have in your area. I run on Digitrax at 2 clubs. I have run on NCE with my engines but it assigns a consist # to your engines (reprograms) that has to be changed before running on Digitrax. I would guess people will explain this here, I just don't run NCE with my power. It is easy to do with below link.
I would also recommend this to program your stuff. I would NOT be in the hobby if a Sprog & JMRI/Decoder Pro were not around. Nice people also.

I will be going this route eventually also as that's what the Proto throttle requires and I really like them.
