This gives time for ATSF, MILW, NP, GN, DRGW, BN and modelers of other roads to start stuffing $20 bills in their sock drawers for the future.

Thank You!!! I pre-ordered by CNW SD45's before the announcement was even half over. This CNW modeler is one happy camper right now.

The ScaleTrains Multi-Maxes look like a good option for the money I won't be spending on the Rapidly Declining B36-7s...

Along with PC there can be CRR, Family Lines, IC had a couple and I am sure there are roads I can't think of at the moment. MRL had CRR and SP GRIP units. Scale Trains can make production runs twice a year of different SD45s for years to come then come back with reruns of different numbers years longer.

It seems like it is a good choice if it is not a one run and done model.

Great to see the SD45 and with SP fan Paul Ellis on the team at ST, guessed it would be on the to do list. I want the high brake cylinder SP the most but can go for a couple of these 1st run versions.

Will both SPs have the standard SP light package or is that only for rivet counters?

I note on the C&NW units the battery box and step guards on the cab are a brighter more saturated shade of yellow than the carbody is. Also, the photo looks like it is the 'old yellow' scheme whereas the schematic drawings appear to be 'Zito Yellow' - which is correct?

The SD45 is a hit. Talked to Paul at Trainfest. If I understood him correctly, ALL versions of the SD45 will be done. This is just the 1st round. The frame for the SD45 is also good for SD38s/39s/40s so start saving NOW. I suggested as an advertisement to picture the SP SD45 MU'ed behind their 8500hp Turbine just like the prototype lash ups than ran west over the "Hill" back in the mid to late 60s. We will see.   ×

That will be determined in time with their sales numbers and how long they have to sit on the shelves...  Any new announcement by any model manufacturer results in happiness and hype when it is perceived as going to be perfect at arrival... without much consideration that doesn't always happen.  (And manufacturers feast upon the hype generated by the hopeful)

The Athearn RTR SD45s, although an excellent model at a very reasonable price with many added details since first release (and now at detail level between the proposed Operator and Rivet Counter version at a street price even below Operator), have had a tendency to be very popular at announcement but then (with only a few exceptions) took many months or years to sell out once released.

In my opinion I think the niche units (CNW being example in first run) and rebuilds may do okay/well, but the versions we've seen before... time will tell.   The big bonuses with the SD45 project are all the rebuilt versions and the other unit types that can branch off the project (SP rebuilds, MK rebuilds, SD40, SD38, SD39, SD40 rebuilds...)

Ditch the CP/SOO autorack and offer the CP Beaver autorack on TTGX flat.
