SP B36-7's on their shakedown run.
Author: ChrisCampi

Brand new out of the box. No loose parts. Nice simulated GE manual with a few laughs as usual. Paint is terrific and lots of neat detail applied without any sloppiness. Ran great without any break in time. Super slow speed operation. Sound is also very good. Lighting is OK. Still trying to figure out advanced consisting with CV's 21 and 22 on these V5's. (Todays job - trying to get the trailing unit oscillating lights to remain off).

Please let me know what you find with cv20 and cv21. Have not been successful with my attempts isolating the oscillating light on trailing units.

Dirty them up a bit and add some pigs behind them and you have the LAOAT!

If you’re using JMRI for advance consisting, I had to go to the CV page instead of using the consist tab. Digitrax has a advance consisting calculator on their website that’s handy.

Not using jmri. Maybe some day. What I came up with was,
CV21=204, and CV22=22.
Everything works properly except when I turn on the headlight all headlights on trailing units illuminate. All other functions work as they should. I use an NCE system.

I’m about where you are except using MRC. Lok sound directs us to the chart below in thr V5 manual. They state CV22 controls F0, F9-F12 and is capable of an input from 0 to 63.

An input to 63 would indicate F13. Which is where Rapido put the oscillating light function. EDIT: this is incorrect as there is now FO forward and FO reverse. So FO foward has a value of 1, reverse=2, F9=4, F10=8, F11=16, F12=32.

This is all lok sound gives us from what I can find on consisting. I’m considering remapping and moving brake squeal and Doppler out of F3 and 5 and moving the lighting functions in. I will certainly let you know if I get anywhere with this.

It’s  just you... No just kidding. The camera brings out all the evil little details. A quick twist with a #11 fixed that.

I have NCE and a Lok Programmer and spent some more time tonight tweaking my Seaboard System and Southern units.  One thing I noticed on my Lok Programmer yesterday is the default B36-7 CV checklist had additional things checked such as the horn, bell, and doppler horn when in consist mode.  I simply unchecked them and it solved the problem when consisted.  I want to do some more homework on the lighting though.

Like your SP unit both the Southern and Seaboard units are beautifully done and run superb.  Nice pics and thanks for sharing!

If you find any hidden CV’s to kill headlights on trailing units in a consist, please share as I do not have a programmer. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip on the calculator. It is indeed handy. I’ve been working with my ST Tunnelmotors with the V5 and have gotten nowhere in regards to having the lighting work in one direction only. I’ve resorted to setting cv22 to 0 and removing the gyro lights from cv21 in order to get manual control of the individual units. So I can go to SP8546 and set the headlight and gyrolights, the go back to the consist for operation. Not Ideal. If I want to run around my train, I have to go back to SP8546, turn the lighting off, go into SP8558 , turn them on, go back to the consist number, then repeat. Doable but there’s got to be a better way.

Ok, more on lighting.

Credit: Lee Ryan on FB ESU group. ( Lee, you still on TO?)

To turn off the rear headlight in all modes.

CV32 to 8
then
CV273 to 0

You will need to set a value of at least 1 for FO forward in CV 22 in both units.

This will also disable the rear headlight when unit is NOT consisted. Not an issue for me as mine will always be in a consist.

This worked in both my Scale Trains V5 tunnelmotors and Rapido B36-7’s. Now to figure out the gyralights

Thanks Lee.

Chris
