Accurail ACF 2-Bay Cement Hoppers.
Author: funnelfan

Accurail is tooling up a ACF 2-bay hopper, thought to be a 2970 cuft model. Undec, BN, CBQ, CNW, DRGW, EL, GN, NP, UP and Data Only are the initial schemes for the car. While Accurail's display at the recent train fest show stated the car was a ACF 2980 car, the stiffener rib and suggested paint schemes were of a ACF 2970 hopper.  The Athearn RTR is also a early version ACF 2970 like this car, Intermountain makes a 2980 car, and the old Front Range model was the 2980 car (I think). The old Detail Associates car was a early 2970 car too.

Will the Accurail version have the molded in place roof walk?
Really makes a big difference.

Most likely, yes. I don't think they know what etched metal looks like.
But their cars are meant to be background runner cars and not superdetailed foreground cars.

They should then have 'back ground price' to match the lesser quality looks. . . . .  I assume.

Looks like a newer GATX built car. Not a model of these out there yet that I've heard of.

They do. As in the $17-20 range vs $50 plus for the "highly detailed" cars from other manufacrurers.

I never understood how cast on roofwalks and grabs make a car operate any worse than a car without.

I don't imagine it would make any difference in operation. Why would you think they would?

These do sound like older cement hoppers that fit into that golden era around the BN merger. Fits in with the rest of their product line just fine.

Still have a couple of Detail Associate flat kits in line at the workbench. Thar ya go.

I was being sarcastic. As was said, all those fine details, nice as they are, does nothing for operation but it did turn a $20 dollar car into a $60 dollar car.

Definitely a current-day car, built for GATX.
