After Dark on the Onondaga Cutoff
Author: RGDave

Good morning!

This past weekend's operations on the Conrail Onondaga Cutoff were a success, we had a good time moving 25+ trains on this busy 'trunk line' set in 1994.  Specifically this time around we modeled November 4, 1994, a fall evening in Central New York.  I took a few snapshots of the action to share:

1.  Conrail SEIN-4 (Selkirk, NY to Indianapolis, IN, originating on the 4th) rolls slowly towards the Restricting aspect at CP 280 on track 1. It's just before 4:30 a.m. on the fast clock; SD60I 5544 leads the train this morning.

2.  The hogger on SEEL-2 (Selkirk to Elkhart, IN) is silhouetted against locomotives behind on the fuel pad at Onondaga Yard.

3.  Conrail 5088, a GE B40-8, is on the point of a consist awaiting assignment at Midway.

4.  The best part of operations is the teamwork required to move trains over the railroad.  Here we see the Mohawk Dispatcher (Chris L) and the Onondaga Senior Trainmaster (Rich W) hard at work discussing the next move to get power to a train 'offstage' east of CP 274.

5.  As dawn approaches, a rare quiet moment at Island Yard finds Conrail B36-7 5031 on the point of another consist awaiting assignment.  The mid-90's still found Conrail using lots of high horsepower, 4-axle units on intermodal trains, and it's a treat to see that come to life again even in HO scale.

Enjoy, thanks for looking!

I see rule "G" has been suspended.

Excellent light in the first image, I admire your whole collection, all quite original.

Hmmm, prototypical operations and Founders beer (which didn't exist in 1994). Shouldn't there be some Genny Cream or Utica Club? :)

Awesome stuff as always Dave, love seeing shots of your layout. That last shot is fantastic, love the marker lights on the B36 and the passenger car interior. Keep up the great work!

I love that approaching dawn shot. Can't decide whether to pop another beer or fire up the coffee pot! Either way, looks like a grand time on the OC.

LOL, well our Rule G reads a little differently in our General Order and Timetable.

And, good call RE: Founders not existing in 1994.  Genny Cream was indeed represented, but thankfully the world of beer (like the world of model railroading) is in a golden era right now - much better than 1994.  LOL

Thanks for all the kind words!
