Model Railroading > More "downtime/inside time" projectsDate: 04/03/20 12:23 More "downtime/inside time" projects Author: Jeff_Johnston This enforced inside/leisure time we're living with is generating great results in the layout room and we're having fun with it. Our current project is the station area in Berrian Vista, which is my wife Pam's city area on the layout. My endeavors are prototype-driven, modeling the Sugar Pine Lumber Company circa September 1927, but her modeling interests are a bit more eclectic.
The passenger station is the Walthers Golden Valley station, assembled by Pam per the kit instructions, and the freight house started life as an IHC Schoolhouse that's being kitbashed into something useful. The ICH Schoolhouse is kind of a goofy basic model but it's terrific as a starting point for miscellaneous kitbashing projects. In this case both were painted with Tru-Color SP Depot Colonial Yellow and boxcar red trim. The passenger station platform will be 2x10 stripwood supported by 6x10 scale runners. The 6x10, laid flat, is tall enough to have the platform deck clear the Shinohara code 70 ties, but the platform will still be somewhat below railhead level to avoid interference when cleaning the track. The freight station will be on a raised team track platform adjacent to the team track at the right edge of the photo. Yes, we're kind of stuck here, but it could be worse. Now if only I could have more down time, but darn, I still gotta work my F/T job, even teleworking. Cheers, Jim |
