Model Railroading > Update modern engine house in the ground.Date: 05/15/20 13:43 Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: robert162 TOs I cut the bechwork and planted the engine house, but........tranfer bridge wont service far right track ooops. three choices 1) leave far right track as a dummy track. 2) curve from reach of bridge to far right track, sharp "S" curve :( 3) Add a left switch leading into engine house. WHAT DO YOU THINK PLEASE?
Date: 05/15/20 14:00 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: mtzctrain My vote would be option 2. Depending on what you use that far right track for, installing a switch cuts out a couple feet of usable track that now has to be empty to allow access to the engine house track.
BTW, thanks for the upates on this. It looks great and I enjoy following along with your progress! -Caleb Date: 05/15/20 14:11 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: Rmosele Can you flip the bridge around so the control shack is on the other side so the bridge can reach the right track? And, if so, will you have the same problem on the other end of the transfer table. I can't see that end in these pics?
Date: 05/15/20 14:14 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: BCutter I will preface this by saying that I have not seen the transfer table in its entirety but...in the accompanying photos, the transfer cab (?) is on the right side of the table itself. Does it have to be? If the cab were placed on the left side, it seems that there would be adequate space for the transfer table to move to the right to line up with the 3rd service track. Of course that may present other issues!!
Bruce And I was typing while the post above this was being entered! LOL! Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/15/20 14:16 by BCutter. Date: 05/15/20 14:31 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Date: 05/15/20 15:11 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: DTWilson Option #3 with the switch... Call that bay the "Quick Track" used when a unit has to be quickly serviced without waiting on the availability of the transfer table.....

Thanks for sharing Gary Posted from iPhone Date: 05/15/20 16:29 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: robert162 Date: 05/15/20 16:52 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: spsunset How about a wye switch centered between bays 2 and 3 and transfer table ?
You do have servicing tracks elsewhere. Don't think transfer table would be that busy . These buildings are for heavy maintenance ,correct? I started with a facility similar in N scale took to much room for my 10x11 bedroom layout. Just have turntable now. Date: 05/15/20 17:51 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: Bob3985 You could place a switch on the center track leading to the right track. I have seen those in real terminals.

-LD Date: 05/17/20 09:29 Re: Update modern engine house in the ground. Author: navarch2 I would use Option #3 as well. If the transfer tabledoes not work...at lease some units can get in for light repair purposes on two tracks...
