Model Railroading > Livin' Large, in the piney woods

Our annual meet in East Texas was pushed back from March to June this year.
We had 2.5 days ops switching, and 2.5 days running roundy roundy.

Ops uses car cards.  There is a main yard, 10 towns along the line with stub sidings and passing tracks, and an industrial switching district.

Here are a few from the ops portion.  Trains have a engineer, conductor and brakeman.

 Some HO guys took my two Alco engines out for a spin

Older style lokies from Baldwin, EMD, and Alco were present

Compare and contrast old vs new style diesels.

This geep miraculously split the switch and stay on the rails.

I take everyone elses picture on their train, but no one ever takes mine on my engine.

Ok thats about it.  A good time was had by all, extreme heat and high humidity not withstanding.

I enjoyed all the pictures, all of people enjoying the hobby, but the last one put a big grin on my face.
Those kids, seeing the adults having fun and doing neat stuff, have good role models.
As it happens I hosted a family of six children at my HO layout yesterday.
I'd much rather feel good about kids in awe of the layout than adult experts.
I got three of them to run trains, the eldest even selected her own consist and turned on the lights before moving out, and she sounded a very good grade crossing signal.

My granson is only 4 .  He doesn't know anything about trains but "run that one" (finger pointed).   He does honk the horn a little but his favorite thing is wide open throttle.     Hopefully he will learn.
