What to do with old IHC passenger equipment
Author: Floridarailfan

When I was getting started in the hobby, and not knowing any better, I bought a number of IHC passenger cars, weighted them, and added McHenry couplers. That was ok for awhile, but I have now been able to nicer equipment.

What to do with the IHC stuff? I don’t think eBay is the answer, so I am consider donating it to the Salvation Army. Has anyone done this? Is this anything the Salvation Army could resell?

You could paint them over into MOW equipment, the big guys do the same thing.  Good luck and post photos!

That worked for me. Had 6 or 8 that needed to go, $25+ shipping got them to a new home.

Put them on ebay as others have suggested.  Back in 2011, I had 8 ICH D&RGW passenger cars.  I sold them for about $12 each.

Also suggest HOSwap. I cleared out all my accumulated HO stuff with no problems.
Just price them reasonably.

How does HOSwap work?  Like an ebay as a buy now type?

HOSwap: You offer your items at a given price, no bidding, no fees.
If you price too high, no one takes them.
I sold a bunch and never ran into scammers or problems.
I was cleaning out closets of stuff I'd never use, wanting to move them out,
rather than wanting to make a killing.
JMHO.

I did the same thing when I got into N-Scale. I use the junk cars as scenery, or filler on remote parts of the yard.

Another idea is to use those as fodder for testing/trying airbrushing, weathering and detailing techniques, before doing it on your expensive pieces.

You could take one and make it into one of those greasey spoon diners.  Or  turn all of them into that and sell them on ebay.  Being unique, they would probably sell well

Some of them were modeled after Santa Fe and Pennsy cars.

Got some dont think I will do anything with them takes too much time to offer and ship them and dont like trying to convert the trucks so they will track along with couplers.  If anyone wants them they are some NP Lowy scheme think one observation, baggage and a dome or two. Wont ship live close to Klamath Falls OR PM me they are free for someone to pick  up. Boyd in Chioquin OR
