Trees, there are never enough...
Author: MrMRL

Been spending the last few weeks planting trees along the club layout. Basically JTT Scenery trees here (Oak, Sycamore, CA Live Oak, Beech, and various colors and sizes of "Woods Edge" clusters). Trees in the distancce (towards the backdrop in the 1.5-2.5" range, trees closer to the track in the 3-4" range. I've honestly lost count, but the number is somewhere north of 100? More trees still need be added to the deeper 'creek' areas, along with a few (maybe even bigger?) foreground trees in front of the tracks.

Amazing watching the transformation of this area compared to just last fall.

Couple similar angles from 10/29/19, before grass, bushes, and... trees.

Ha, I wish. As I said... not enough trees yet, unfortunately. But thanks for the support!  My folks were up above The Loop on Sunday afternoon, as I was planting many of these trees.

Looking real nice. Do you have a go to source for the live oaks? They seem to be a little scarce right now from what I can see. Got a couple on Amazon and just need four more. My local HS is having trouble getting them.

Based on the proto photo, fortunately you don't have to plant as many trees as Eastern modelers. Thanks for sharing the excellent work.

Ebay. Still a few sellers out there with them in various sizes.

Indeed! I plant 100 trees in about three feet.

A good chunk of decks two and three on my layout are just trees. I find it therapeutic to install them, actually.

Thanks for the comments folks! Another order of some 100+ trees was placed today thanks (in part) to the generous available offerings of HobbyLinc.com.

(along with the generous offerings from the monthly membership dues of the awesome longtime sustaining California Southern MRC members!)

Mr. MRL ~ have trees, will plant!

Sweet! Nice thing about foam based scenery is it's easy to plant tree's.

Oh man I love it. I still use a power drill to poke through the plaster, paint, and ground foam shell on the surface. But after that, it's soft and easy with the solid region of blue insulation foam below. A few light dabs on the surface with a wet paper towel picks up the plaster and scenery dust with ease. Then the trees get the bases of their trucks dipped in white elmers glue and (planted).

Looks great.  The photos at Tehachapi are a good reference for amount and type of coverage you need. Amazing how a layout can eat the trees up as you make them. It's been awesome watching your progress
