Model Railroading > ATSF Painting Question:Date: 07/01/20 08:06 ATSF Painting Question: Author: BoilingMan I just received some Santa Fe heavyweight cars (Micro-Trains) and the trucks are painted Pullman Green, matching the carbody. This came as a mild surprise- but then I’m no ATSF expert. Is this true? They painted their HW trucks green? If so, was this always the case, or only in certain years, certain cars, or some other circumstance?
Thanks SR Date: 07/01/20 12:01 Re: ATSF Painting Question: Author: PHall Per the Santa Fe Railway Painting and Lettering Guide published by the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society.
Paragraph 2.1.1 Coach Green - sides and ends, steps, battery box covers (gloss dark olive green, somewhat lighter then Pullman green.) Matt Black - roofs (weathering to a dark matt gray). Black - center sills, air tanks, brake cylinders, water tanks (some cars) (semi-gloss when new, matt dark gray when weathered and dirty). Truck Brown - trucks and underbody except for black center sills, etc. as noted above (semi-gloss olive drab, weathering to matt dark brownish gray). Edited 2 time(s). (I kinda figured Micro-Trains did some homework to have gone through the trouble) Cool, thanks! SR Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/01/20 16:58 by BoilingMan. Date: 07/01/20 14:36 Re: ATSF Painting Question: Author: PHall Santa Fe marched to their own drummer as far as passenger car colors went.
Of course, IIRC, SP used Olive Drab as their passenger car color. Date: 07/02/20 05:06 Re: ATSF Painting Question: Author: Arved PHall Wrote:
