New "Industry" on an Old Track
Author: Jimmies

The pull-back at one end of the JSSX yard originally served that old boarded-up warehouse, and then became a seldom used storage track. Now another use has popped up as a new "industry" for the shortline.  A conveyor loader cobbled together by the short line's shop forces is now in service for trans-loading from truck to covered hoppers.  The first trailer hasn't arrived on-site just yet, but NREX leaser GP38 shoves the first two cars into place.

Looks great! Nice job on the scratch-built grain loader too. I enjoyed looking at the pictures on your blog.

Great looking scene. Any luck finding any trailers?

The one's I've seen are like the one's they use on the farm. Mounted on wheels, adjustable height and have a receiving "box" where the truck or rail car unloads into that is about 3 x 5 feet.
And I've seen them used more to unload railcars into truck then anything else.

That's some great modeling. Thanks for not depicting cars with graphiti. <G>

Mike - Thanks for looking in.  I try to post on the blog once a week.
Chris - No trailers so far, but I'll get them sometime.
PHall - Here's a photo of the conveyor I'm trying to depict.  This one loads fly ash into covered hoppers.

Nice touch with the safety wire so workers don't fall off the top of the hoppers.

Stanley - Truth be told, I think that cable is what really "made" the scene look right. Beige coloured sewing thread.
Charls - That's Walther's REA building.  I put the front and rear walls together to extend the length of the building, so I only have black paper across the back.  The back can't be seen anyway.  That kit assembles really nicely.  This is the 4th one I've put together and weathered.  The other 3 were sold at train shows.
