2020 Walthers Model Railroad Build-Off
Author: NGotwalt

This year as part of the NMRA Convention that was to be in St. Louis, Walthers announced a Model Railroad Module Competition. Entrants purchased a kit assortment from Walthers and had to build a module from it that varied in size based on which category you entered. The modular group I am with, the Northeast Corridor Historical Society built a 2'x6' module for entry in the adult team build competition. We had a great time building it, despite the Coronavirus with various members contributing various structures and one member assembling the whole thing. We based our module on the PRR/PC/Conrail/SEPTA Station at Crum Lynne, south of Philadelphia on the four track Northeast Corridor. The time period is the 1970s. Here are some of our photos of the module. To give a little more background, we're a Free-Mo derived club that does a few minor things different. No the catenary doesn't work...yet, but we are working on it.

You guys did a great job of stuffing a lot into a 2 X 6 module without looking like you stuffed a lot in.  Nicely scaled.  Understand tha catenary is unpowered.  Do you connect the cat to other modules and run with pans up at setups?

I've seen your modular setup at the Timonium shows. Most of the modules have no cat structure only one or two . Would be nice to see more catenary in place . Nice module ---  Ken

We are absolutely working on the Catenary. But, it’s not a fast process. We want to be able to run pans up within a few years.
