Model Railroading > Kato n 101606 or kato n 101605Date: 08/06/20 18:43 Kato n 101606 or kato n 101605 Author: Highhood Does or has anyone here own either one of these models. If yes how well did / do these items operate. What is the minimum turning radius these units operate on. Also on the 101606 does this 4 car set come with a power unit. I have looked in the description but do not see ( may have missed it ) where it says one of those cars is powered.
As always thank in advance for your responses Date: 08/06/20 19:58 Re: Kato n 101606 or kato n 101605 Author: lynnpowell Japanese prototype subway cars?
Date: 08/06/20 23:00 Re: Kato n 101606 or kato n 101605 Author: amtk908 I do not own them but the 6 car set has one powered unit. The 4 car set is an add-on set with all cars unpowered.
Instructions sheets will be diagrams but all writing will be in Japanese. From what I could find on the Japanese sales sites, the minimum radius appears to be 249mm. Cars can be illuminated with the Kato lighting kits. Although I do not own this set, everything Kato that I do own, both US and Japanese prototype, are well detailed and are smooth and reliable runners. Kato's scale top speed is generally a bit high but they also operate very well at low speeds. At least that has been my experience. Hope this is of some help. My daughter picked these up for me while she was on a trip to Japan. She didn't realize that they were unpowered or she would have got me the 6 car set that does have a powered car. But I think these are really nice cars and I have them on display. These have a coupler system that will only allow them to couple with other subway cars so you can't use a different powered unit. As wirh all Kato stuff, they are well made and detailed well for subway equipment. As best that I can tell (I don't speak or read Japanese), the instructions list R249 which is 9 3/4 radius. I use 12 3/8 radius and they roll great. Most if not all Kato equipment is made to operate on 9 3/4 radius.
Hope this helps, Ralph Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/07/20 10:49 by BNSF20. |
