Fried BLI sound decoder
Author: 4-4-0LiveSteam

it would run about a foot,, stop,, repeat then nothing but the tell tell smell of fried electronics. I would like to replace it with something better. It is a Big Boy ho scale.
Any suggestions?
I know many of you have preferences, any help greatly appreciated.

You did yourself a favor by frying that POS BLI decoder.  Replace it with a Soundtraxx Tsunami2
and enjoy the show.

Murphy is correct. BLI locomotives look awesome but their decoders don't hold up to their name.
All my Broadways have been Tsunami'd and run great.

Thanks for the info.
So would this be the correct replacement?
Soundtraxx #885003 TSU-1100, ALCO Digital Sound Decoder

Thanks again

You likely won't find a drop-in replacement decoder (unless you order a replacement from BLI, with I wouldn't do).  You want the Tsunami 2200 Steam 2, PN 884007.

PS: The part number you noted is for ALCo diesels.

Thanks.
Its a shame to spend the money we do, only to spend more to make it right.

Thanks again

That is why I intend avoid BLI engines. You pay a lot for a sound dcc engine only to have to rip out the electronics and spend yet another $80+. Something is wrong with this picture. I read about this scenario over and over and over. It's bad.

They are always having sales on "reconditioned locos". Does that tell us something?

I've noticed that too.  No thank you.  I suppose the only way it might be worth it if you were desperate for one of their engines is to pick one up at a very good sale price so after you replace the electronics, you maybe sorta break even vs. a new price.
