Model Railroading > Real SP Autorack compared to LionelDate: 10/22/20 06:31 Real SP Autorack compared to Lionel Author: cornerfieldhobby Yesterday I saw CSX intermodal / Autorack combo Q157. Well as the autos were passing on the train, I noticed it had an original Southern Pacific. So I took a photo of it. Anyway, afterwards in the evening, it dawned on me that on our museum layout at Corner Field Model Railroad Museum, we have an O Gauge scale size SP Autorack. Well anyway, I took a photo of that and then I decided to put them here together to compare them. I know some of the detail and markings might be off, but what Lionel did I think is just fine. On the model, from coupler to coupler end is 22 inches.

JB Date: 10/22/20 20:29 Re: Real SP Autorack compared to Lionel Author: EspeeGoldenState I don't understand how hard to put a legit number on something anymore. Even if its not 100% correct, at least it has a legit number on something very simuliar.

The Road number for the Lionel Autorack, howeveris off. A quick search through railcarphotos.com, yields that all of the bi-levels for SP, posted to teh site, have either 516XXX & 518XXX road numbers. The first marker that the prototype photo is a tri-level is the notch in the side sill at the trucks.
