Model Railroading > A few PD (Pressure Differential) Covered Hoppers.....

 As some of you may know Atlas recently received their new 3230 PD covered hoppers in a variety of reporting marks.  I settled on these two for starters and may acquire more at a later time. Today was their maiden run and they operated flawlessly!

Some weathering was also in order----this included the trucks, wheels, air hose, handbrake chain, etc. Additionally the slack adjusters on the left side of the cars were painted the standard black. I also mixed paint to match the body and then applied it to the vertical roofwalk supports. The NAHX car received some white drippings on the the roof and slightly down the sides to simulate the gypsum they're carrying. The CRDX received some light surface rust and some gray cement caked around the loading hatches. The couplers were also changed out-----they came equipped with Kadee #5's buy I opted 158's instead.

     Therefore here's an "out of the box" photo and then the weathered products......

Look like prototype exactly.

Fantastic modeling!. The Trinity PD's are cool but about 40 years too new for me.

Ditto.  Those look fantastic.  Unfortunately too new for me.

Neat, the Roanoke Cement versions seem to be the only ones Altas offers with any logos or decoration other than the simple reporting marks on an otherwise all-white car.

I saw those at my hobby dealer-----they too are very nice!

Thank you for showing the Atlas and SMD cars togther. It answered some questions before I had to ask.   ×   

Excellent weathering! They look great.

These look awesome... Just the right amount of "aging" applied to these cars!!!
