Reducing 1/4" scale drawings to HO scale
Author: boejoe

I'm sure it's been addressed here in the past.  HO is 3.5mm to 1 ft and generally O scale is 1/4" to the foot (17/64" to the purists)  I want to reduce an O scale drawing to HO scale and ask what copier reduction setting I use to achieve the correct result.  TIA for your assistance.

1/4 inch = 6.35 mm

6.35 / 3.5 = 55.12%

Another way to do this - if you don't have a copier with that level of sophistication but do have a scanner/printer:

Scan the drawing in as a .JPG, making sure it has a printed dimension somewhere on it.

Insert the JPG as a photo into a Word document

Resize and print the image back out, adjusting it for size until the printed dimension matches a scale ruler laid on top of it.

You can keep printing and checking until you get it right, no harm, no foul.
