Idaho Falls, ID model RR club
Author: bobdavis

The Eagle Rock RR Historical Society in Idaho Falls, ID (Eagle Rock is the original name of the city) has a large HO scale layout in a city-owned building that is normally open to the public during the annual model railroad show each fall.  This year's show was canceled due to the Covid pandemic.  The layout represents Union Pacific's Montana Subdivision btween Idaho Falls and Silver Bow, Montana.  For a number of years it appeared that not much was going on with the layout, but in the past year or so the club has become active again and has put a lot of time and energy into updating the layout and making it operational.  Track and electrical issues took first priority and most of those have been resolved.  The layout has been converted to DCC and can be operated with standard DCC throttles and/or smartphones.  As is often the case with clubs, equipment on the layout included anything from woodburning 4-4-0's to Amtrak, but the club has been working towards standardizing the roster to locomotives and cars appropriate for the location and time period - 1950s to 1970s.  An operating plan has been developed, and as you can see from the attached pictures, switching is a big part of the plan.  Photo 1 shows an excellent scale model of the former UP passenger station in Idaho Falls.  The other two shots show some of the busier switching areas.  It's great to see a very nice model railroad back in action and I plan to participate in operating sessions there as soon as possible.

Need a few vehicles on the streets. It's a fine looking layout. Keep posting photos.
