BIG crane(s) looking for BIG job(s)...

Belated follow up topic from an earlier thread...
https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,5114379

Just getting around to uploading some photos of recent hi-jinks at the train club over the past month or so...

Here is that big-ol HO scale Kibri 1000 ton Gottwald crane kit on the (still under construction section) of the club layout with an additional helper for the construction crew. An amazing die-cast model from WSI Models of a Liebherr 9 axle truck mounted telescoping crane. You gotta have something big and beefy on site to build something even bigger and beefier, am I right?

The RTR die-cast model was purchased from M.B. Klein, but they're unfortunately out of stock as I type this post...

And as was kinda/sorta anticipated... The sight of such an amazing model in person inspired a fellow modeler and long time friend to inquire about the prospect of possibly owning one of their very own 10 axle mobile crane models... So back to Ebay it was to purchase one more model from Germany. Assembly, glue and super-detailing completed, what once was one was briefly two before handing off the completed model to the new grateful owner.

Looks really great. Hope to get back next year, depending on a vaccine and resumption of flights.

Whatever that new die cast unit plans on lifting is going to be at its limit judging by all the counter weights installed. Look into dunnage for under the feet also. These units are neat additions to a modern layout.

Looks like a light lift in one pix.  Some of that brand of crane have a counter weight that has wheels under it I suppose so when not loaded will not cause it to tip.  And just rigging the thing in HO scale must be a nightmare to do. Bought a nice one in about O scale and gave up the string wads up quite easy.

Those Kibri cranes (even the smaller ones) are incredible models but then you have to have someplace to store them and something for them to do.

Lousy pic but you can see just above the truck the Dunnaged used by a similar crane to unload a stock car recently. Their heavy timber bolted together. Maybe 10x10's or 12x12's?

And then try to keep them rigged was way too much fun trying to do the one I bought so sold it right away.

Most of our cantilever signals are BLMA kits.

A Liebherr, 9 axle telescopping crane is what is being used now in central KS to replace the wind tower blades. upkpfan
