Bringing Back The SP, U25B 6744 Yesterday At Randall MR, In SF

Typical SF Peninisula motive power on LA bound freights. U25Bs, GP35s.
They would go to Oakland and sometimes Tracy, but not often to Roseville until the late 1970s.

Well, 75 to 78 to RV before the U boats were stored as junk in 78 in LA

Sort of like EMD's BL-2...you can't always hit it out of the park your first time at bat!  Both builders got much better as time went by, though.

So I've heard, but they have a look, to me, something like a puppy dog. You see it, and just want to reach behind his ears and give him a good scratch. The shorter nose of later U-boars (to standardize on the short nose of the U25C?) just doesn't have the same look. Maybe the longer nose helps the dog look.

But it had a damn good traction motors.

As for "first out of the gate," not quite. There were many prototypes, and remember GE supplied electrical gear to ALCo. They must have thought their FDL engine was better than ALCo's 244 and 251 (GE started development before the 251 reached the market, but by that time, the GP9, well... Let's not let this be a history lesson. Suffice to say, GE had done a lot of homework prior to joining the horsepower race with the U25B.

Nice to see trains still running at Randall. Dad took me to visit during the NMRA convention in '68. I'm a club alumni from the early '90s, when the '93 BRAC forced me to relocated in '95 to Florida.I miss that club and it's members. I wish things had turned out better for y'all.

I wish Bowser would fix the class lights on these models. They have plenty of excuses why they can't but Korean Brass and Rivarossi has gotten it right (twice in fact) on their U25C's!

A set of early GE's made an amazing sound.
A U50 was a religious experience.
