SP Rotarys in HO
Author: sixaxlecentury

Something I have wanted for a long, long time, and I am finally tackling them.  The announcement of the Division Point is what lit the fire. I have my doubts that they are going to do them right, so I will do my own 3D printed shells.

Here is the very first rough CAD work. Still have many hours to go filling in the small details, rivets, hinges, etc. Everyone of the SP rotary's was slightly different, even though they all used the same basic plans.  My design will be the later ones, I am specifically aiming to do SPMW 208 and 207, the last pair converted to electric.  These had welded carbodys as opposed to the riveted ones of the earlier conversion.   207 will get a new shroud, as it has wings.

This shell will drop on to the Walthers rotary frame, as it is the correct size (I mean, that IS what they were converted from after all).  I am also working on a Steam version.

I have yet to decide if I am going to offer these for sale as kits when they are done.  I might do a limited run.  After this will be Spreader 4034 and then the Flangers (the Albrea brass has issues).

Nice!  I'm looking forward to your spreaders.  Would you be making a rebuild kit for the Walthers ones?

No, it will be all new. There is not a single part in common between the Walthers Jordan and the later Hydraulic models SP used for snow removal.

First off, thanks to those who sent messages - Never would have thought there would be so much interest!

Got some more knocked out tonight.. Very pleased so far.  Need to get some more resin ordered before I can do another test print.

Very good. Try and get the cab walls as thin as physically possible where the window inserts meet. That is where a lot of otherwise well engineered models fail. It ether looks like coke bottle glasses or the thick walls are very obvious. Just my 2 cents.

They will have a recess in the rear that will hold the glazing as close as I can get it to the outer edge.

Very good. Maybe Rapido should hire you! Too bad I don't model the SP, as I sure would buy in.

First Precision Scale announced them years ago, then Coach Yard recently, and now Division Point, as well?

No, they will be kits.

My error, I meant Coach Yard, not Division Point.

Pretty much done and ready to test out.  The remaining holes and brackets for steps, etc will be added later on.   I need to get a height check before I finish up the rear "diaphram" as well.

Before you accuse an Importer of doing something wrong - You should first ask yourself - if you can do it right ! - What makes you so special ?

One thing is for sure, two wrongs don't make a right.

But three rights does make a left.

I sectioned the front 2" just to do a very quick preliminary print to check for sizing on certain things.  I have some tweaks to make, but nothing drastic  I am really peased so far - and this is with my printer being way out of calibration and needing a screen replaced (which is why the front edge is "smooshed" and there are visible lines).

When these are done, I will likely do one of the BN plows.
