Model Railroading > SP Rotarys in HODate: 01/13/21 11:47 SP Rotarys in HO Author: sixaxlecentury Something I have wanted for a long, long time, and I am finally tackling them. The announcement of the Division Point is what lit the fire. I have my doubts that they are going to do them right, so I will do my own 3D printed shells.
Here is the very first rough CAD work. Still have many hours to go filling in the small details, rivets, hinges, etc. Everyone of the SP rotary's was slightly different, even though they all used the same basic plans. My design will be the later ones, I am specifically aiming to do SPMW 208 and 207, the last pair converted to electric. These had welded carbodys as opposed to the riveted ones of the earlier conversion. 207 will get a new shroud, as it has wings. This shell will drop on to the Walthers rotary frame, as it is the correct size (I mean, that IS what they were converted from after all). I am also working on a Steam version. I have yet to decide if I am going to offer these for sale as kits when they are done. I might do a limited run. After this will be Spreader 4034 and then the Flangers (the Albrea brass has issues). There is not a single part in common between the Walthers Jordan and the later Hydraulic models SP used for snow removal. Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). Got some more knocked out tonight.. Very pleased so far. Need to get some more resin ordered before I can do another test print. That is where a lot of otherwise well engineered models fail. It ether looks like coke bottle glasses or the thick walls are very obvious. Just my 2 cents.

Date: 01/14/21 10:57 Re: SP Rotarys in HO Author: sixaxlecentury Pretty much done and ready to test out. The remaining holes and brackets for steps, etc will be added later on. I need to get a height check before I finish up the rear "diaphram" as well.

Date: 01/14/21 17:33 Re: SP Rotarys in HO Author: TomG But three rights does make a left.
Date: 01/14/21 19:44 Re: SP Rotarys in HO Author: sixaxlecentury I sectioned the front 2" just to do a very quick preliminary print to check for sizing on certain things. I have some tweaks to make, but nothing drastic I am really peased so far - and this is with my printer being way out of calibration and needing a screen replaced (which is why the front edge is "smooshed" and there are visible lines).
When these are done, I will likely do one of the BN plows. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/14/21 20:01 by sixaxlecentury. Date: 01/14/21 21:08 Re: SP Rotarys in HO Author: funnelfan What software are you doing your modeling in?
