Grande Afternoon...
Author: wheel_slip

I spent the afternoon at my buddy Jim Evans house operating on his D&RGW themed layout. We caught three pretty neat trains. A Railblazer, a coal train and a special charter passenger train using some Ski Train equipment...

Ah, is that a brass Wilson McCarthy business car at the end of the ski train?

Awesome. Spent 5 hours down at the club with some friends running trains. It was a fun day. Will post some photos soon.

Nice to see proper (from what I can tell), Rio Grande cabooses. The coal cars look like they were decalled. What make are they?

The back drop looked very nice. Who makes those? The scene reminded me of desert scenes driving east out of southern CA. I am interested in modeling scenes west of Grand Junction.

Nice videos of an awesome Rio Grande layout. That coal train sure was long, half expected some helpers.

Thanks, the cabooses are a combination of parts that I put together, the main body is a standard Athearn caboose, the windows are rearanged and I use laser cut windows and fillers. The cupola is from the Roundhouse caboose, it is wider, the same width as the body. The ends are all scratch built with basic materials, I use athearn genisis trucks and a light board to power the lights,

The coal hoppers are mostly Roundhouse cars that have been decaled or had numbers changed.

The background picture are from RealisticBackgrounds.com

I will try post more pics in a day or two.

Thanks for the compliments and interest.

James.

I enjoy seeing Rio Grande photo's of the 70's and 80's - would enjoy more photos!

It looks like you did a good job on the cabooes.  The work you did gave them the distinctive Rio Grande shop built caboose look.  It never escaped me that the Round house caboose had a very Rio Grande looking cuploa!

Thanks for the additional info.

Cheers,
Jim
