Model Railroading > Athearn Genisis Questions

I'm thinking about buying a set of ATH Genisis G1500AB units and I'd like to know;
1) is the B unit powered? Not indicated on the box.
2) Assuming the B unit is powered are they both DCC ready for a plug in chip?

Yes they are DCC ready or you can buy with sound and DCC.

Anyways, some research led me to find that you are talking about these.

Both units are powered. Based on the manual for these here, they appear to not be DCC ready. They were made in 2005.

WHY didn't you just say Athearn Genesis F7 A and B unit?

Athearn told me that dummies would cost about 50 cents less to produce, that's all the Chinese would save in the production, shipping, selling costs and overhead. So why bother, especially since modelers would expect a real discount for a dummy. They were very open about it when I queried them.

It is easy to change the board for a DCC board. Don't go the easy route and buy the early F-Unit Genesis engines with Sound and DCC. They used the troublesome MRC system.
