Never could understand  about Randy's Dounuts. Sometimes the line is thirty to fifty people. I bought a dozen of mixed dounuts, and they tasted like normal dounts. There is also a big donut in Gardena on Western Ave.. The pigeons are a great touch.

And they pigeon excriment gives the appearance of the powdered sugar per the title of the topic!

I've never been a huge donut fan.

The "BIG-DONUT DRIVE-IN" that became the original "Randy's" was located at the corner of Manchester and La Cienega in Inglewood, CA, very close to the Los Angeles border.  Here is a photo.  I grew up a few miles from there and remember riding my bike up to the window to get a donut.  In the 1960's, there were several Big Donut locations, but the only one remaining today is this one.  Now, as I understand it, Randy is actually building a new location in Orange County, complete with a newly constructed "Big" donut feature.

As for the donuts themselves  I was never that much of a fan of Randy's.  Give me a Winchel's any day of the week.

Hope you are all doing well,

Allen Drucker

Winchel's = production line donuts with very little taste and the worlds hottest coffee.
I perferred to get my donuts from the Helms Bakery truck.

Winchels.  That's a blast from the past.  I'm trying to remember the last time I've seen one of those.  Maybe few if any since leaving the west coast.

Did you ever visit my uncles Taco Bell on Sepulveda Blvd in Van Nuys just south of Mission Hills?  His was there from 67 -87.  When the 20 year franchise was up, it had to be demolished as any new franchise would require a dining room and drive thru.

I would agree with you, but there are decades separating the two.  I was referring to Randy's, which is currently in business.  You are referring to our beloved Helms Trucks, which I believe, disappeared around 1969.

Mission Hills is a LONG way from the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles that I was raised in.  Sorry, never made it out there.

Dang Robbie, that looks amazing!

My favorite donut place that my in-laws introduced me to was Stan’s in Westwood. Unfortunately they closed last year. And I remember Winchel’s, used to be one across from my high school in Northern California.

Cool! Winchelsis old school too.  Used to have one is San Joser I'd go to.  Lou's Donuts in San Jose is still the best donut Ive ever had.  Not sure if they're still there.

There's still some Winchell's around, just not as many as there was before.
The one at Chicago and University Ave in Riverside, CA is still pumping out their artery cloggers!
