First up is a "before" shot of the far too clean and shiny Chessie SD7 #1830, and then the after weathering photos follow.

Fantastic !  Here are 2 shots of B&O 1830 taken at Cumberland,Md. on 4/19/80 and 6/27/81. I loved watching B&O's SD7s and SD9s work long cuts of cars in the Yards and over the Hump. Again, your weathering is Top Notch !

What kind of couplers are on this model? Because those things extend waaaayyyyyy past the pilots.

Weathering is well done, indeed.  Also like the bumpers stored trackside - nice detail usually overlooked by most of us.

"those things", as you refer to them, are Kadee #146 couplers.  The locomotive had #5's installed as I received it. When I installed the Proto 2000 pilots, which came in a separate bag with the model, the #5's were not long enough to clear the pilot so the couplers could not swing properly from side to side. I had the #146's on hand, so they were my solution.

I don't know who assembled the sand hopper.  It was given to me by a friend a few years ago, and is a pretty nice feature. There are supposed to be railings around the top of it, but they have come off. I'll have to work on getting some pictures of the hopper for you.
