Model Railroading > SP era lumber flat car loads?

Interested in seeing some of your SP era lumber flat loads modeled from the PNW. I have seen videos of some of the prototype trains and was wondering if that's what is transported I the box cars too?

The car in the last image has received some severe coupling impacts, hasn't it?

That's a fine lumber load with all the lifts bound together, but nothing tying everything to the flat.

Loose dimensional board shipment. Saw them all the time

As noted the bundles are not fanstened to the car and the top bundles are not fanstened to the lower bundles. Rejected by the car inspector for sure.
Loose lumber, smaller demensional went in boxcars. Some cars had end doors (small window) for loading long boards.  Things change with time. Shakes always went in boxcars and plywood and OSB goes in boxes. Also partical board and MDF.

Sheet rock for years went in box cars too.  In the early 1960's we started seeing it wrapped in black plastic and put on flat cars.

Prior to the adoption of Centerbeam flats, the practice of nothing tying the lumber directly to the flat IS prototypical for the 1970s out West.
 

Wasnt it routine then to have posts in the sill pockets to keep the load aboard?

Not uncommon then to have guiderails spiked lengthwise on the flatcar deck to keep loads from slipping sideways.  Search "lumber loading on flatcars" and railroad-issued "Pocket Reference Guides" will show up.
