Spending next week in Rapid City, SD. Any suggestions on clubs, layouts, visits, or contacts I could take.

There is a town east of Rapid City that has road side signs for miles and miles.  That is Wall, SD.

It has nice motels to overnight in and cafes have affordable prices.  The town is a sunrise meeting point for the eastbound east of Rapid City and the inbound into Rapid City.  Way cheaper in all ways from what is in Rapid City.

Dinner one night at the Alpine Inn in Hill City highly recomended.

If you have a paleontology interest, the Mammoth Site is very interesting, watch the Buffalo at Custer State Park from a safe distance,
Then there is the 1880 train.
Have fun, lots to see and do

Deadwood has a large layout you can see, right in the heart of downtown.

Note the Deadwood switch engine spots cars up the hill a ways.  When the train goes by the Safeway grocery store the switch crew flags the front doors of the store to keep customers from walking out of the glass doors into to tracks of the of the switch crew.

I spent 10 days in Deadwood working the switch engine covering the switch engineer's vacancy.

Rapid City,Pierre and Eastern has a small yard on the SE side of town.

No tracks in Deadwood anymore.;)

Loss of another historic experience and location.  Things were different before gambling was legalized.  I wonder if the Mona and Lisa business doors have been saved for display in a museum.
