Model Railroading > My version of model railroadingDate: 05/18/22 13:02 My version of model railroading Author: DTrainshooter When you don't have space for a layout here's another way to go...hang a train on the wall !
The thickness of 8X10" plastic box frames is just the right width to accomodate Kato N gauge track. So, here's the California Zephyr with my favorite power lashup...I also have CB&Q E's and am working on a set of WP F's. Really wish it was easier to find unpowered "dummy" units. It would save a lot of $$$ Date: 05/18/22 13:07 Re: My version of model railroading Author: DTrainshooter The hardest part of this project was adding the American Limited diaphragms to the Kato CZ passenger cars...tedious !
Also, the double headed Tomar searchlights are functional. Powered by a CR2032 3V button cell. Date: 05/18/22 13:08 Re: My version of model railroading Author: Spoony81 That's a really cool idea

I'm hoping you don't live in earthquake country, however (-or that you have a net or foam underneath). Rich Date: 05/18/22 14:19 Re: My version of model railroading Author: g-spotter1 That is a really awesome display idea! If I could offer a small suggestion: Place a darker color of your choice behind the enentire display to frame it, or just behind the train to make it really pop. Nice!

One small tidbit, if you study the majority of CZ photos, you will find the Baggage car operated 98% of the time (or so it seems) with the double door end operating forward. I don't know why, easier to load remains out of view of the coach windows or something else related to loading heavy express? Great job and very creative. g-spotter1 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > That is a really awesome display idea! Date: 05/18/22 17:54 Re: My version of model railroading Author: SPDRGWfan I missed out on the Kato CZ sets when they were being produced. These days on Ebay they usually sell for silly high prices but I found a set at a train show for a bit under MSRP.
But the power available in N scale is all early CZ power. I found a set of intermountain single stripe F7s which is what the DRGW used from about 1966 and onward. Edited 2 time(s). I checked and you're right...the baggage car is now turned around :) Date: 05/18/22 21:12 Re: My version of model railroading Author: atsf121 Great idea!

Another thought regarding the consist order: The diner was only in that position amongst the sleepers for a few months after inauguration. It was then permanently moved right behind the dome bar lounge dorm, with the kitchen forward. This served two purposes: 1) The crew dorm was right next to the kitchen. a much more convenient location for the crew; 2) It kept the coach passengers from traipsing through several sleepers to get to the diner. And they went to great lengths to keep the coach and sleeping car passengers seperated. |
