Bachmann 50’ outside braced boxcar 10’ opening door
Author: fbe

I just bought models from this series for the Bath & Hammondsport Railroad Co, Port Huron and Detroit and Frisco.  The BH, PHD and VSO cars are letterred as cushion cars though none of these cars are equipped with any underbody or end of car cushioning detail parts.  The underbody details have the brake piston pointed towards the A end of the car instead of the B end where the handbrake wheel is mounted.

The lettering, logos and colors look good and are accurately applied.  The grabirons and steps are molded to the carbodies.  The end of car flashing devices are mounted to the draft gear, allow the couplers to function and power the end of train flasher from the truck on that end of the car via a circuit board.

These cars have good potential based on finish and assembly but seems about $15-$25 overpriced.  Some underbody detail work with Moloco detail parts could bring these cars RPM standards.

Yup, it is a copy of the Athearn Railbox boxcar,  they even copied all the errors of the Athearn car.

These cars are no where near a match to the Athearn cars.  Bachmann is a finer detaied car with 6 verticle ribs between the ends and doors and the car sides look taller. The Bachman cars have X panel roofs with 9 panels.  The cars are painted rather than molded in color.  I will try to do photos later today.

Photos from the iPhone. They might need a rotation.

Here's the Athearn blue box Railbox. Looks pretty similar to me.
