GP35s in run-8 (dubbed-in sound)
Author: CNW

While on rail safaris in the 1970s, I carried a small cassette tape recorder in my camera bag.  I've digitized my collection of about 30 tapes, and I'm always trying to find sound files that will match scenes on my layout.  So here is my latest creation that I made while sitting on an office chair with wheels.  My wife was the "pace chair" driver.  I made the recording near Waseca, Minnesota in July of 1974, while pacing a similar train on highway 14.  The engieer did a nice job "playing" the horn too.

For those not familiar, the C&NW built ten road slugs from F-units in 1971 to work between pairs of GP35s.  Each truck on the slug was powered by one of the GP35s, giving them more tractive effort at low speeds.

Awesome! Timed the grade crossing and horn just right! Initially thought there was not going to be a crossing at all. Also, it really does look like it is paced from a car.

Brilliant - very imaginative and so well executed. What it demonstrates is that so much sound is missing from sound equiped model locos. It's one thing having a power unit sound file, but there is no railroad noise to go with it. You've proved that sound on locos needs a vast improvement.

Super as usualy!  Wow!   Even the walkway chains are connected between your locos...you never miss any details!

I always look forward to your work!    You've set the bar high and this is an excellent piece of work.
And I don't even like diesels LOL.

The whole time I found myself with a big grin, particularly as a realized how absolutely perfect the sound was timed to the scene.  And now realize that grin was the point of this video!

Thank your!
