Travel day from Bridgetown, part 1, Clackamas OR club
Author: dmaffei

Sunday Oct 2 was a travel day from Portland. We started with a layout that is in Clackamas OR. A suburb of Portland that is probably a best kept secret as I couldn't find much web info. Located in the community center basement is a layout that gives a real Oregon vibe and begs for lumber trains and SD9s. Our guide was none other than legendary SP in Oregon Rod Loder.
The layout isn't real large, but they use the space well and have many finished scenes. We start in what is a staging / maintenance room for the layout. A place to work on locomotives or equipment that has a horseshoe shape trackage that can dispatch trains to the layout. It also contains the layouts helix. So let's start with this well lit room.
Photo one is our guide explaining about the room with helix in background
Photo two is the other side of the room with more storage and work space
Photo three is the car card file storage area desk
Only web info I could find https://groups.io/g/clackamasclub

Posting photos of some layout scenes as the layout wasn't running, but still fun to photograph

First photo is my favorite shot of the day. Look at the depth the backdrop gives you

I see a talented group of modelers here. Would love to come back for a run session. Next stop, historic SP railroad town of Oakridge in part two. Hope these pics inspire ideas for your own layout

Great pictures, Dave.  Rod can help you connect up for a run session -- there are ops every month and a Western Oregon Ops (WOOPS) session is in the planning stages for 2023.  The layout is specifically designed to support proto operations.

Very impressive.  So many ideas of industries served.  Makes me wish I had more space to do something like that.

Amazing progress Dave. Do you know if Dean Barbour is still active in the club. He was heavily involved in preparing the space for the club layout. I was given a tour of the club rooms during the Portland Narrow Gauge convention a good number of years ago.

Someone asked privately about the small numbers visible at the bottom of the fascia in a few photos.  These are "footpoles" used in reporting incidents and requests for repair on bad order tickets to identify the location of a problem.  Because the long Woodburn branch runs directly under two-thirds of the main line, they work for both as in "FP155" or "WFP155."
