I saw this on the Model Railroader site.

Scroll down. These figures are made with 3D scanning and printing technology. They look so much more realistic than the hand carved and painted ones we have been accustomed to.

Dang! They come pre-colored too? I'm having a hard time telling if the samples shown are actually scale figurines. They look like photographs of actual people!

A plaid shirt on an HO figure?  Now that's Impressive!  :-0
These would be just the thing for some foreground rail crew members on a locomotive walkway, in the cab, or hanging off the ladder on a piece of rolling stock.  
They are combining the idea of an inkjet printer (except printing with colored resins), and the layers of a resin 3D printer.  Print one layer at a time, and the result is a full-color part, ready to use.  Genius!

Though the printed parts are impressive, I would have to use their services to perform the printing.  The printer is $100K.  :-0

Wow! Plaid! I don't recall any Preiser or Merton figures that have done that.
The prices are in Australian dollars. The conversion is $.68 USD to AUD. That makes them competitive with Preiser and Merton. I didn't price shipping to the USA which might be the killer.
 

Unfortunately the O scale guys are 1/43, not 1/48.  It's a big visual difference.  But impressive non the less.

There's a 1/48 option called "USA O".

I am very impressed with how realistic the posture/pose of the people are.
My suggestions for several I can see buying (in HO):

• Employee riding on sill steps and ladder or grabirons.
• Employee throwing switch stand (high and low versions)
• Employee giving hand signals (highball for a roll-by, come ahead arc, etc.
• Employee riding on a locomotive or caboose platform with one or both hands on the railing
• Employee partly leaning out of open vestibule window or cab window
• Train Order Operator handing up orders
• Trainman leaning out with arm extended to catch orders

Except for the Train Order set, they could be either with PPE or without.
Ouch! I just spent my allowance for the rest of the year.....

Perhaps someone here stateside can become a distributor? I've seen some of this kind of stuff on Shapeways, where someone did a 3D printed version of themself, but I don't belive they were printed in color but stand to be corrected.

Up until a few decades ago, it would also have been accurate to model these figures without PPE. One of my favorite pictures from c.1990 was of the agent/operator at the Old Saybrook, Conn., station hooping up orders in his Sunday best.
