No Scale Trains Tease this year, by Athearn?
Author: inyosub

A year ago we were teased with new products from various manufacturers with planned announcements
at the Amherst show. This time around not so much. Athearn has said there will be one. It's the only
one I know of.  Tangent may* have something planned, dunno. Anyone know of anything else?
Or has life gone back on hold? china delays

I'd like to see ScaleTrains offer more SD45's, especially the most common SP L windshield version and Rio Grande.

I'd like to see some promises delivered: Moloco's HO scale NP "Brainard Built" double door 50 ft. cars and Rapido's SP B50-14 box cars.
As for new, anyone who brings out an HO SD-45 in NP colors can walk away with a handful of my money.
Be sure it has nice handrails, plow, MU hoses, uncoupling levers, and LED lights that can be conveniently wired into a decoder or decoder buddy.

if this turns into I wish they'd make thread ...
I'd like to see Atlas release a new and improved RSD12  They are a well sized engine for smaller layouts. Pair well with the SD35s etc
Scale Trains or Athearn could do a Baldwin Center Cab or Alco C855  I mean, they did the SDL39 ! so come on.  (I bought 3 of those!)
Scale Trains may also have access to the drawings for a 4 compartment tank cars as MTH did it in O scale. That's been on my list forever.
Remember Pecos River brass (I Think*) was going to do it in HO back in the 80s.  arg! U had that on order, along with all the stuff UTI was doing!

How about a "wish they'd stop pushing out their due dates" thread. I know, I know, lots of factors beyond their control. But Athearn seriously needs to a few months off of announcements. If you haven't looked, several items just got pushed out to 2024, that were announced in 2020/2021/2022. So the likely hood of any 2023 announcements arriving on shelves before 2025/2026 I have to think won't happen. Maybe some manufactures have realized, announce once they are 9 moths out with a pretty solid plan it will be only 9 months out.

ExactRail has Southern Waffles shipping now, PC&F beer cars and Trinity 6275 coming shortly and PC&F 7633 60' applicance boxcars all announced.

Athearn seems to have a good 12 months lag time historically and as noted, some are getting pushed juch further out, many more months.

I'd like to see an RSD-12 in Utah Rwy to run with my RSD-15's.

I'd like to see some promises delivered: Moloco's HO scale NP "Brainard Built"

It does seem like Moloco announcents of any newly tooled models have quite the lag time.  Last summer the Moloco PC&F boxcars shipped and a bout a month ago, more General American.  Both those were based on existing tooling.  I think the tooling samples of the Brainard Built have been received so hopefully those will be in production soon.

Jim I also hope ScaleTrains will get back to the SD45s, but sadly im not going to hold my breath. It seemed from the get go they had 60s and 70s modelers in mind, but the moment they bought that other company they turned into another producer of modern Alfa Numeric stuff. No doubt their focus has changed.

One thing gives me hope, and that is one of the 4 main guys there, Paul Ellis, is an SP fan and the SD45 is one of SP's iconic diesels of the 70's and 80's.

Would like to see Scaletrains produce the unrebuilt SP SD45s (9000 series), and Rio Grande SD45s.  I'm sure they are eventually coming, but sooner would be better than later.

Yes, the rebuilt SP SD45R have been offered by Athearn and ScaleTrains.

Scaletrains stated on their Facebook page that they will be making several freight announcements in multiple scales at Amherst. They just added a S Scale tab on their webpage, so I would bet that a S scale announcement will be one of them.

I can guarantee it won't be a McCloud River SD38-2.

I wish Bowser would remember they told us they were working on an Alco C-415.

Absolutely! It's not just Athearn either. I have no interest in hearing about new product announcements when it will be years before there is any signs of progress and even longer before it sees the light of day.  That's assuming the project doesn't get cancelled. It's reached the point where a new product announcement amounts to "This is something we're thinking about making some day." One of my New Year's resolutions has been to cancel all my pre-orders that I don't expect to see within calendar year 2023.  I understand the business model and I understand that unforseen delays happen, but it is truly getting ridiculous.

For those of us of a certain age, the announcement-reservation deadline-production-shipping-delivery schedule on so many new models exceeds our life expectancies.

Well put. I like the way Tangent announces their new models--when they are ready to ship.
