Don't hide the helix
Author: santafedan

You can make the helix part of the scenery.  This is in a layout I did the scenery and some buildings a few years ago.  I changed the exits form the double tracked helix.  He was having trouble with the diamond.  It shorted with the three axle locos.  The helix has 5 exits.  The layout had 3 levels.
The tunnel opening in the middle photo had another opening tithe left.  This allows two trains on the helix to pass in the open.

I plan to have the top part of my helix exposed.  It only makes sense.

The top is OPEN and it could be resched from the bottom.

YES, do NOT hide your helixes!!!!!    Here is mine under construction in 2018.    I will try and get a current shot posted.   It is done scenery wise now.

My 5 turn helix is behind a curtain with a peek-a-boo in the third turn.

I am toying with doing something over the center hole, but not certain what.

I also considered some layout elements over the top of mine. I’m glad I didn’t for troubleshooting purposes. It’s performed flawlessly with tight tolerances on track, wiring, and gradients etc.

santafedan,

Your trees look really nice.  I have a memory from when I was a kid visiting Hawaii.  They remind me of slender Monkeypod trees.
