Maybe too much realism <G> ?

I'd love to put that on a wye. And while they are at it, we could use the thump, thumps as cars go over over a diamond.

Silly and gimmicky just like their throttle.  And even if I wanted to, why would I pay for something like that when I can park a mp3 player and speaker combo under the layout for $10 or $15 on Amazon?  That company should be called Gimmick, Inc.

I'm holding out for a sound device that has yard workers swearing and spitting.

Saw it at St. Louis RPM, really looking forward to it.

Love my Proto Throttle also...

Plus the motion detector, and the circuitry for the motion detector to control the MP3 player.

Your in luck. You can record your own sounds to be played on this device.

Scaletrains already did this with their SDL39's. I know, I know, lots of complaints around them, but they work fine for me and sound cool.

I am curious on this option and what it will do. Just adding more choices for modelers.

And how much will you have into it once you buy a motion detector plus the player and speaker compared to what ISE sells it for. Yes, it would be worth making your own if they sell it for $50-100. And will your homemade one sound tinny?

A related sound that I have on my To-Do-List is a wheel with a flat spot.  As the wheel rotates, it vibrates all of the brake rigging whenever the flat spot is encountered.  The trick is to synchronize the track speed with the frequency of the sound.  Moreover, the playback speed needs to slow down as the car slows, and increase as the car speeds-up.

Since this is very similar to the Chuff of a steam engine, I'm wondering if it would be possible to use a LokSound decoder.  They allow users to load their own sounds.  If the Chuff were replaced with the Whump-Rattle of a flat spot, would it work?

If not, I think an Arduino would be able to get pretty close.  If the playback speed can't be altered, then a series of recordings at incremented playback speeds might do the trick.

Dave I think this is the wrong product if you want flat wheel noise. I think If it were me, Id rather install a Soundtraxx car sound decoder in a random car in your train. Like in the Athearn Genesis cabooses it adjusts the jointed rail click clack or flat spot in conjunction to the relative speed of the train. Then the flat spot goes where ever that car goes instead of where you place a sensor.
I do like the idea of this product, but it is targeted for switching areas. I would like to see mainline flange squeel that sings on curves rather than just the screech. Two distinct sound for two entirely different locations. Hopefully it falls in the price catigory of their bell sound module and not the rather expensive throttle. This does have potential.

Use it to model the wheel squeal from the retarders in a hump yard!

I’ve already had Loksound with ScaleSound speakers installed in nearly a dozen random cars.

They get a decoder address that I just MU into the power consist and put it in the train wherever I want. The flat spot rate is tied to the speed of the train with random squealing of flanges mixed in for good measure.

Also has the air coming off and on as the train starts or stops.

Just another gimmick to jack the prices up. With sound from the locomotives, some layouts I’ve seen have far too much noise already.

I agree the sound on all of my engines is only high enough to hear if its within a foot or so away. In a very short time I find sound loud enough to be heard across my room just noise and take the relaxing fun out of running trains.

Imagine that with the already multi featured sounds of locomotives and Soundtraxx sound cars going down the layout plus grade crossing noises.  Talk about driving one to the looney bin quickly with so many sounds.

That's why there are volume controls....

I might want that for one of my curves, but I do think I'd want an off button or a way to control how often it plays.

^^^Yes^^^
This is what so many people don't seem to understand!
