Mountain States Free-mo: Evanston, WY Sept 2023
Author: SimpleMoMike

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Mountain States Free-mo run held in the Machine Shop of the Evanston round house complex. There were 104 HO modules and a approximately 20 plus Free-moN modules set. My video concentrates on the HO side of the event. I hope you enjoy.

Thank you Mike, that was wonderful to watch, and to bring back so many memories.  The folks there have done an incredible job with many hours of work.  I have attended the restoration of the Round house, such a beautiful piece of work, and the area from the beginning and now age has taken over and I have missed some years.  One thing I miss is my relationship with Bob Krieger.

Would love to see the SP and D&RGW trains run.  Maybe next time.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your video, but I really like your opening photo with the GE 44tonner (Mike Nelson's?).

Those are actual locomotives outside of the facility next to the turntable. The Trainorders site selected the opening shot which is actually at the end of the video. That gave me a great idea for a shot though. Next time I will see if opening the large doors allows me to use the actual sky as a back drop.

Outstanding video Mike.  Really impressed by the modeling skills of the members.  Enjoyed the Ore Train behind Eagle Mountain U30C's and later, behind period correct SP power (U28C, etc.).  Sound came across very well, I could hear the clickety-clack across jointed rail between two modules.  This event was a great use of this historic roundhouse.

Nice video Mike, one of these years I'll make it up to the Evanston Free-Mo event.  I found a brief video clip of UTC 1303 and a trackmobile working the Union Tank Car facility just around the corner from the roundhouse, this was back in December 2017.  Guessing both of those GEs have been donated to the Roundhouse, and I know there's a group working on restoring an 0-6-0 there.  Hopefully they can get a nice little museum going there.

Thanks for sharing the video. That's a cool operation with the transfer table, too bad I don't model tank cars because that would make a great module set!

Here's a pic of the steam engine being restored. It's in the second section of the roundhouse. Our tour guide said there is a brewery slated to be in the fourth section of the roundhouse.

A Brewery? That's a dream come true!
