Model Railroading > Rapido 44 Tonner With Scale Sound Systems Speaker.Date: 09/24/24 17:54 Rapido 44 Tonner With Scale Sound Systems Speaker. Author: ChrisCampi I installed the just received SSS in cab speaker today. To be clear, two speakers are offered, a drop in to replace the original speaker in the original location, and a full cab version which I chose.
First, the full cab version involves removing the cab interior, and as you can imagine leaves you with a big black box where the nice cab detail was. It's definitely a trade off and you need to consider that. Removing the cab interior was a bit of a head scratcher until I figured out you need to separate the whole cab from the rest of the body. It's easy to do but not spelled out in the instructions. Installing the new SSS speaker is straightforward. I used the existing wiring by desoldering it from the original speaker. So, now installed, here we go. The new speaker is light years better then the stock version. The horn is now fully audible and you can now hear the two prime movers independently along with the various accessories. Then things get a little weird. I set the sound volumes back to stock, except in the video the horn is at 200. I could not drop the prime mover volume down beyond a value lower then about eighty. It just wouldn't make any difference in volume. Nor could I raise the bell volume much either. Go figure. I ended up dropping the master volume to sixty for now, although I'll most likely drop it some more. Currently, I'm not sure I want to keep this speaker. It's almost to much speaker for this little unit which was not very loud to begin with and I do miss the open cab interior. I'll give it a week then maybe order the original drop in version to see if it suits me better. Make no mistake though, this speaker really brings out the details of the sound file and is worth the effort if that's a priority to you. Maybe one of you ESU guru's can figure out the sound volume control issues. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! Author: M-636 I purchased to Scale Sound Systems V1 speaker, which arrived after the V2 "Cab Full of Speaker" version was released. I will try the V1 speaker first, and then work my way up using some smaller SSS speakers I already have on hand for stalled electric locomotive projects, because ESU hasn't relased the sound files for the locomotive yet.
